“Durty”… The Dublin “Dirty”

Ronnie Drew would have been proud! While having a coffee with a friend recently, I was informed that I mispronounced the word “Dirty”… I was quite bemused by the comment and asked what they meant… You pronounce it ‘Durty’ was their reply. The usual sort of debate ensued, of us both saying and re-saying the word in an attempt to figure out the right way… I think that maybe all those elocution lessons haven’t paid off! They proceeded to note that at times I have a ‘Dublin’ way of saying certain words… Well, I guess I would have, seeing as that’s where I was born and raised. Besides I love the way us Dub’s speak… I mean, just look at the “Dubliner’s” front man!
