The ‘Musical Youth Foundation’ (CHY#18624) was established by Dublin City Soul Festival as part of our desire to effect positive change on the local community.

Aside from independent fund raising initiatives the MYF will benefit, in part from the future financial success of the Dublin City Soul Festival with a percentage of ticket sales revenue going directly to the MYF in due course. Furthermore it is hoped that the MYF can encourage Irish concert promoters to follow suit and make an annual contribution to the foundation for the benefit of the local and wider community.

Long term plans for the Musical Youth Foundation include the establishment of satellite groups in major cities across Ireland. Furthermore the MYF aim to establish a Music Academy in Dublin City, where children under 18 can go to practise their instruments, establish bands and benefit from mentoring from industry experts including high profile artists in a safe and secure environment.

Donations to the Musical Youth Foundation can be made via their official website Please think kindly of helping out; www.musicalyouthfoundation.com (new site launches very soon!!!)

City Friend – The Lucky Caller No.9… Ian Whitty And The Exchange Reviewed

The Lucky No9City Friend is the hot new single from Ian Whitty And The Exchange. Taken fresh off ‘The Lucky Caller No.9′ the hugely acclaimed debut studio album, and following the celebrated songs ‘Not On Your Side’ and ‘Houndstooth Shirt’ this is another great offering from this Rising Irish Band.  This is musical hot scones and butter on a Saturday morning, with that prevalent feel good factor stemming from an unmistakably upbeat vocal delivery and indie-folk sound. With strong acoustic-pop arrangements, combining lush strings and brass, the song writing and storytelling is all at once, urgent and energetic while remaining soothing, rooted and folksy.

The group can also proudly boast some well-known names on this record with production by top Irish producer Ken McHugh (Dave Kitt, Autamata) and mastered by Dave Collins in Los Angeles (Bruce Springsteen, Janes Addiction). They were also amongst the first acts to be selected by Alison Curtis of Today FM in her Ireland Rocks section to record a live version of the Bruce Springsteen classic ‘Atlantic City’ for ‘The Last Splash’ and also won the Hotpress/Tisch video competition for “Not on your side”. (www.hotpress.com). In the most recent Hot Press readers poll ‘The Lucky Caller No.9’ was voted Top Ten Irish Debut albums of 2008 alongside the likes of Fight Like Apes and Lisa Hannigan. City Friend was also selected by Hotpress for their most recent compilation.

Deleted Scenes – Birdseed Shirt – Reviewed & Relished!

Deleted Scenes’ first full-length album Birdseed Shirt is an album that I haven’t been able to stop playing for the last week. A powerful infusion of indy, psych rock and hyphy-pop, this is a great album. Gritty and twisting through genres like a bag of cork-screws, nothing is off- limit musically for Deleted Scenes as they blend together divergent elements on every song. Need I say more – A stunning album, you will simply relish! http://www.myspace.com/deletedscenes

Free iPhone OS 3.0 Software update – Cool but Deactivate PIN Before Upgrade!

tech-hero-20090608The free iPhone OS 3.0 Software update includes some great new features and really good stuff, including “Cut & Paste” and “Internet tethering” (modem) so that you don’t need a Wi-Fi hotspot to surf the web from your computer – But it has one fatal flaw that O2 customers need to be aware of… If anyone is thinking of the iPhone OS 3.0 Software update… I recommend Unlocking your O2 SIM card and leaving it PIN free before attempting the update! Download works ok but if the PIN is active it will prevent phone from activating after upgrade ! I know… I learned the hard way!!!
To deactivated PIN, go to Settings > Phone > SIM PIN > Switc to OFF. Upgrade should work ok then…
